From the Desk of the Executive Director

Dear SCIP members,

I am honored to serve as the next Executive Director of SCIP and look forward to working with all of you to take the organization to the next level.

In the first quarter of this year, I will share my plans with the entire SCIP community but, in summary, our overall mission is simple and that is to “Serve as the premier global membership based organization for competitive intelligence capabilities in business, industry and academia by providing four key elements to its international current and future membership base.”   We will build and further advance an association that actively, and in an ongoing manner, does four things:

  • provide education and training of its membership
  • build a robust forum for intellectual debate
  • ensure access to tools and services to its members
  • advance a global network of peers

Further to that, my plan is to address the hard issues that members want to hear about.  I will ensure mechanisms are in place to share appropriately the financials and decisions made by the organization with its membership base.  I will build better communication networks to bring information to the membership and provide more transparency addressing issues that are important to the community of our peers, whether you are a consultant vendor, a practitioner or a student learning the valuable competency of intelligence decision support.

Many of you know that I have served as a practitioner, consultant and instructor for many years and have been fortunate enough to have some of the pioneers of the industry serve as my mentors. I have been a member of SCIP for the better part of my career which has spanned the disciplines of engineering, strategy, marketing and market intelligence and so I’ve experienced, first hand, the value our discipline brings to business and industry on a global basis. Given the economic conditions worldwide, there has never been a better time to possess the skills that a good decision support intelligence capability provides professionals of all operational roles and so I am excited about working with all of you to build those programs that do just that under our SCIP umbrella.

As the incoming SCIP leader, I believe it is time to accelerate the goals of the organization and to ensure that a SCIP membership is advantageous to all those who join our community.   I look forward to working with all of you, sharing my plans with you in the next few months and building a member centric association that provides true benefit to its base.
